Specifications

There is no specific ASTM standard or other standard specification on fabricated fitting dimensions.  However, pipe used to fabricate HDPE fabricated fittings comply with the dimensions and tolerances as specified in ASTM F714.  HDPE Fabricated fittings are fabricated of pipe and plate materials consisting of virgin resin in accordance with the material specifications listed in ASTM D1248.  HDPE PE3408 fabricated fittings utilize materials extruded or molded from a Type III, Class C, Category 5, Grade P-3-4 resin with a cell class of 345434C as state in ASTM D3350 and are compatible for heat fusion with any pipe manufactured from a like or similar resin.

Fabricated Fitting Pressure Ratings

Fully Pressure Rated- meets or exceeds the minimum required system design pressure.  Generally, this is accomplished by utilizing pipe with a thicker wall than the adjoining pipe.  It can also be accomplished by fiberglass wrapping or reinforcing the fabricated fittings.

Reduced Pressure Rated- fabricated using pipe with the same SDR as the adjoining pipe.  Reduced pressure fittings are de-rated as follows:  45, 60, 67 1/2. and 90 degree elbows: 10%.  Wyes and two piece tees: 25%

Please consult with the manufacturer or supplier to determine to proper pressure rating of the fabricated fitting.

Dual Containment

HDPE dual containment HDPE pipe systems can be broadly characterized in three categories. The first dual containment system fuses both the carrier pipe and the containment pipe simultaneously.  The second system requires electrofusion or an annular heating iron. The third system uses a slip lined conductor pipe inside the containment pipe.

System 1: simultaneously dual wall fused system which utilizes standard fusion procedures. Size capabilities range from 2" through 18" for the carrier pipe.

System 2: utilizes standard fusion procedures on the dual containment carrier pipe and an annular heating iron or electrofusion coupling on the containment pipe. HDPE Pipe and fitting systems are available from 2" through 8".

System 3: the hdpe containment pipe is installed first, then the conductor pipe is slip lined inside the containment pipe. The carrier pipe is not restrained and is not centered in the containment pipe. This system is usually best suited for smaller pipe sizes, where long coils are available, and in circumstances requiring no restraint.
